Megan Iselin is a University of Houston 2012 Tier One Scholar

Megan Iselin, a resident of Cypress, Texas, is one of 58 freshman Tier One Scholars at the University of Houston (UH). Iselin, who majors in pre-business, is part of the largest, most distinguished class since the program's inception in 2009. Of the 2012 Tier One Scholars, five are National Merit Scholars, six are valedictorians and 46 ranked in the top 5 percent of their high school graduating class. Their average SAT score is 1422, the highest average SAT score in the program's history.

A National Merit Commended Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction, Iselin was awarded a Robert F. Lucas Outstanding Lieutenant Governor Award and Outstanding District Governor Award. Iselin also received the Bronze Presidential Service Award for more than 100 hours of community service three years in a row.

The Tier One Scholars program began as part of UH President Renu Khator's initiative to attract outstanding, high-achieving students to the university. Each Tier One Scholarship covers four full years of tuition and fees and two years of on-campus housing at UH.

Tier One Scholars also receive stipends to pursue research and to study abroad. Many Tier One Scholars are also members of the UH Honors College. To be eligible for a Tier One scholarship, graduating high school seniors must have a minimum SAT score of 1300 and have ranked in the top 10 percent of their class.
